Day 3: Pear Sauce

Pear Sauce

Day Three (23.05.2012)
Processing: Water Bath Canning
Yield: 3/4 pint

Today I was going to make applesauce (specifically without sugar for my 6mth old). Instead as I rummaged in the refrigerator I found 3 pears that needed using up. After quickly flicking through my canning books, I decided to cook them up to make pear sauce, canning them in my mini jars as 1 or 2 jars is enough at the moment for her to eat as a meal. This way I can combine fruits for her to sample too :-)

Next time pears are cheap at the store I will be making this again - but in half-pint jars instead.

Ingredients:
3 large pears, washed, peeled, cores removed, chopped
1/2 - 3/4 cup water
1/4 teaspoon lemon juice
sugar [if you want, I didn't include any]
spices [again if you want, I didn't include any - you could add a little ground cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cardamom or cloves]
