Our monthly community classes are held at Maddington Community Centre (Alcock Street, Maddington Western Australia) and run for 90 minutes. Using seasonal produce we create delicious preserves and you go home with recipes, preserving information and two jars of preserves. The monthly community class fee is $20 per person.

Run every few months from our canning kitchen, these 3-4 hour classes are great to learn the basics of pressure canning low acid dishes such as soup, stock, vegetables (non pickled), meat, "ready-to-eat" meals and more. Classes are held in Armadale, Western Australia and you leave with pressure canning information and a jar of pressure canned food we create in the class. The introduction to pressure canning class fee is $30 per person.
Did you know you can book a private class – in our canning kitchen or in your kitchen?* Invite a few friends and/or family together, put on some music and get ready for some jam-making fun! Most classes run for around 90 minutes and all ingredients, equipment and recipes are provided in the $30 per person class fee - and you get to keep all the jars you make. *Please note that we charge a travelling fee which varies depending on your location. There is no travelling fee for bookings held in our canning kitchen in Armadale, Western Australia.
By the end of each class, you will:
  • Know the basic method of hot water bath canning to seal your jars.
  • Be able to create one or two preserving dishes.
  • Understand the importance of safe food preservation.
  • Required Background: Community class attendees MUST be aged 16 years or older. These classes are suitable for beginners who need help with each step, to advanced preservers who just want to try out new recipes and have fun in a social cooking group!
  • Required Materials : No materials required. All equipment and ingredients are provided. Please tie and pin hair back and wear closed-in shoes. It is also recommended to bring along your own apron.
  • Additional Resources: browse the recipes on our website - you will be provided with a copy of the recipe/s we create in the class, as well as a general food preservation handout.
